Whistler is teeming with many options to keep you entertained the whole year around. The Long Weekend and GO Fest really highlight what our town has to offer. Here are the top things to do with a long weekend in Whistler.

GO Fest – May 17- 20

Every family’s long weekend favourite, the Great Outdoors Festival showcases the best of Whistler. You can enjoy family-friendly sports, arts and music events. There’s plenty of opportunities for you to learn a new skill. You can try your hand at sailing, learn how to build a bird house or even become a DJ. If you’re looking for something a little more relaxing, catch one of the films in the Whistler Film Festival Adventure Series.

Early Season Golf

If you like golfing as much as I do, you’ll be very excited to hear that all 4 golf courses in Whistler are now officially open. Play at a world-class designed with a stunning mountain backdrop. Choose from Nicholas North, with a view of Green Lake, Fairmont Golf Course, Whistler Golf Course or Big Sky in Pemberton.

Whistler is home to some of the best hiking in BC. In May you have many easy level options before the Peak 2 Peak opens for the summer. Enjoy a mellow stroll along the valley trail or around the paths at Lost Lake. If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, the Train Wreck hike by Function Junction takes you through the forests, parallel to the Cheakamus River. You will reach a clearing where you can see the colourful train carriages and suspension bridge.

If you’re not feeling quite adventurous enough to brave the opening of the bike park, the valley trail offers lots of more mellow options. You can rent a bike and cruise along the paved network of trails, connecting Green Lake to Cheakamus. GO Fest has the Road Bike Group Ride event hosted by Whistler Cycling Club if you want a more challenging road biking experience. If you’re looking to combine your love for gourmet food and cycling, the Bici Gusti Gourmet Ride is the one for you. Head into the 70km trail in the Callaghan, and end the day with a delicious meal from Ned Bell.
